My dog Rain/Reighn died 4am April 29th.

She got hit by a car on the 28th chasing after her ball.

When I was really young I saw the movie Babe in theaters and since then I had always wanted a border collie. My sophomore year in highschool my parents bought one. She was supposed to be pure bred but I highly doubt she was..her mother looked more like a cattledog..though her father was definitely border collie.

I wanted a pure black and white border, my mother wanted droopy ears. We got the opposite..Rains mum gave her funky genes and what we thought was just dirt eventually spread all over her body and she had wonky specks of brown fur patches on her face and back legs. Rains ears also began to stand up instead of lay down.

When she was a puppy, her ears grew too fast for her body..they'd lean on each other for support and fall forward onto her forehead as if they were too heavy.

She had beautiful eyes though. We joked that they looked like the apocalypse. They were bright orangey red and looked like the sun exploded.

Rain loved kisses on her forehead
She loved the neighborhood kids
She loved waking my siblings up for school
She loved her ball
She loved her green alligator baby chew toy that used to belong to my sister when she was an infant..we took it away from Rain when it started getting dirty and soppy and boy was she heart broken.
Rain also loved to be a menace to society
She barked at the door when she thought somebody was at it even if there wasnt.
She would charge joggers in the road and scare them senseless even though she never meant any harm
She chose every opportunity to pick on Daisy, feeding time was an art.
She hated going potty on road trips..actually she hated going potty in general..we always prayed that she'd go poop everyday or else she'd go and do it in the house 2 days later.
She acted like she was afraid to get her feet dirty..different types of potty meant different positions. Pee was balancing her 2 backfeet in the air. Poop was a half squat with one backleg in the air.
But she always listened to us.

Ill miss her :/ she was only...6 years old this month I believe.

Oh, that is absolutely heartbreaking. I am so sorry. :( I know how you feel - my German Shepherd, Charly, died two years ago on April 28th (which is why Rain's story is even more heartbreaking to me) because of an enourmous tumor in his belly. We knew something was wrong for months, but the vets kept saying everything was fine and that they couldn't find anything.. We didn't have money for surgery when they found out that he had a tumor, and the chance that he would survive was 15%.. So we had to put him down. He was my best friend. He was just an adorable, gigantic teddy bear. But I could never take him for a walk because he was aggressive towards other dogs (we always thought he possibly suffered from multiple personality disorder) and he was stronger and heavier than I was. But I loved him. The night before we had to put him down, I was laying in my bed, sleepless, and I could hear him whine very softly downstairs. So I went downstairs and laid down next to him on the ground. I fell asleep with my arms around him.... The next day we had to put him down...

Once again, I'm so very sorry to hear this. Losing your beloved dog, the one who's always there for you no matter what you do, is like losing a family member. It's terrible.
But remember that Rain will always be watching over you.

I am not sure if you have ever heard of the Rainbow Bridge - I think you have - but someone sent me this beautiful flash movie when my dog had passed away. I would like to share this with you. It is really the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and it still makes me cry. But it did help me cope with my loss. So I hope it will help you, too.

I wish you all the best. Rain will always be with you, in your heart.

I have lived a great deal among grown-ups. I have seen them intimately, close at hand. And that hasn’t much improved my opinion of them. --The Little Prince

*hugs* I'm sorry for your loss :( I just lost my cat of 13 years a little over a year ago.

You all laugh at me because I'm different;
I laugh at you because you're all the same.

We came home one night at the begining of March this year to find our cat Custard curled up and stiff on the couch. She was eighteen years old, the same age as my youngest brother.

What a horrible night that was.

So for the first time in my life I can somewhat commiserate with someone who's mourning the loss of a pet. *pats on back*
